Nutritional support in GI cases for vets, From diet choice to microbiome: a practical guide for chronic GI patients.
Myriam Hesta started working at the Animal Nutrition Laboratory at the veterinary faculty in Ghent shortly after she graduated as a veterinarian. She started the nutrition consultation service at the small animal clinic and successfully passed her ECVCN (European College of Veterinary and Comparative Nutrition) diplomate exam.
In 2003 she also received a PhD degree with her work on prebiotic supplementation in dogs and cats. At this moment she is professor in companion animal nutrition at the Ghent University. Her current topics of interest are obesity, gastrointestinal health and sustainability in dogs, cats and horses. In 2021, she started the healthy weight clinic for companion animals (dogs, cats and horses). She is the supervisor of 2 ECVCN residents and is promoter of several PhD students. She is also an active member of several scientific committees (Scientific advisory board of FEDIAF etc.) and is regularly invited as a speaker at international congresses and symposia.
Myriam Hesta is full professor at ECAN (equine and companion animal nutrition) at the department of veterinary medical imaging and small animal orthopaedics at the faculty of veterinary medicine, Ghent university.
